Yarka St. Petersburg watercolour on Canson Montval 140lb cold press watercolour paper, 4 x 6"

The lovely thing about having multiple small watercolour blocks is being able to work on more than one painting in stages. I kept this on my desk and studied it for days, I think for two or three weeks.

I worked from the bottom right flower in Gerbera Collection and Voodoo Rose by =alilone and ran into some problems with the scan that led me to deepen it slightly to keep from creating false highlights by the scanner not picking up lighter shades of yellow. But once I'd darkened the yellow on the Gerbera and run a little of the same warm Cadmium Yellow over the rose's petals for unity it helped strengthen the warm orangy-pink of the rose petals. I was pleasantly surprised at how that worked. The background is simpler and pure Russian Green worked more loosely. I took much longer glazing multiple layers on the flowers. At the end I softened the edges of the flowers a little with a wet brush and took a little of the Russian Green into some of the shadows, again for unity. I like the way it came out and love my Yarka watercolours! *HappyDrizzt is so right about how bright they are!

Thank you! I really had to experiment a lot to get the details on it right. It still washed out a little in the scan, the original is very bright and I've got it up right next to my desk. I took down a list of fantasy names for a game I was playing and so now I've got a cool artwork up instead. I ran out of wall space a while back, so now all the scribbles and notes are giving way to cool artworks!

Maybe I'll get some envelopes and mail some of them out as gifts this year and so create a little more space again. :)
