This pastel piece is loose and expressive because I combined the reference with my memory of some Van Gogh irises that I saw in an art museum, even though the Van Gogh originals were in oils. I wanted some of his looseness with linear accents and like how the textures contrast between the soft blended background leaves and the foreground flowers.
