5 x 7", Prismacolor on paper. An intimate landscape composed of real and imaginary plants, a close view at a perfect rose that bloomed in the summer of 2005 in Colorado (see "Rose to Remember" in my gallery for the photo reference) surrounded not by literal rendering of the plants and leaves around it, but the memories of thousands of summer afternoons spent laying in grass looking at the microcosm, an intimate landscape.

The shading on your rose is beautiful. Your choice of plants works well for the picture and make it different from your average rose peice. The shading on the grass is also really good., and I can really see a lot of texture in the leaves. You did a good job mixing tans and browns in with the greens, it makes it look more like its really summer than spring-like bright green. :)

great job!

Beautiful picture! The plants are so detailed and full of different colors, and the rose looks lush and velvety. I like the dark bits in between, it makes it look really three dimensional & thick foliage.

Purr thanks! This one has a very strong color scheme, one that usually means Christmas. Doing red roses always reminds me there are other reasons and other seasons for red and green together!

Purrr thanks! So many of those plants were drawn from memory that I'm so glad they came out realistic!

Purr thanks! It's the distillation of more summers in more places than I could count and one of a few pieces I've ever done that I'm totally satisfied with and wouldn't change anything, have no urge to redo differently.
