Prismacolor on paper, 4 x 6"

The sketch for this sat around for a long time in my ProArt sketchbook, done sometime before I did the new SFFmuse logo lettering, but today I got around to finishing it in Prismacolor using the limited palette of the Landscape set. It's cold out and I missed warm days with distant hills, so a warm day with distant hills is my fantasy!

This had no reference of any kind and was completely from imagination.

i really love how the colors strip up into the bark, its very nice, and gives it so much depth. i also love the motion of the branches. it pulls the eye around the picture, very pretty!

How lovely! A fantasy, indeed! I adore that tree. I love its twisting branches and luxurious foliage. The texture work and shading on the trunk are very pleasing to me as well, like it's the kind of tree that would be nice to walk up to and run my hands along its trunk. Wonderful piece you have here! Everything about it oozes a lovely summer day, unlike the drizzly nastiness that is December.

yay for pretty trees!

Thank you! This is the one I drew while lazily answering your big comment earlier. I love that long comments thread we've got going -- it gives me ideas for things to draw. There's these icicles outside my window -- should have drawn them yesterday, they're dripping and a couple of them are gone now, grr. Well, they'll come back. If they grew there, they will be back. And looking at all that pretty Christmas-card snowscape that makes Minneapolis look like it's covered in powdered sugar, all I could think about was being outdoors someplace with big branching leafy summer trees and pretty hills and rock formations in the distance.

At least this time I did it in a sketchbook instead of doing a good one onto an index card like Mostly Rocks. I need to use my small sketchbooks and little watercolor pads when I get ideas like that!
