Yellow Day or no - this is very beautiful work. I only do watercolors as have not the patience for pencil, and have problems gripping and using pressure with pencil, but have always admired those who work in this medium. I go to your gallery now.

Thanks! It took a long time! I'm just glad I got it finished today, it would've lost some punch to post it tomorrow.

Wow, thank you! I took a look at yours and friended you because we have so much to learn from each other. You handle watercolors so well! I never succeeded at any human subjects in watercolor well. I started in pencil and colored pencil, then pastels. But I'm getting better at watercolor.

If you have trouble gripping and using pressure with pencils, maybe something shaped differently like Prismacolor Art Stix could make it easier for you. Conte does a set of colored crayons too, but I haven't tried those and couldn't say how hard or soft they are or how much pressure they need or how they blend. Those are next year's experiment. "Horses" in my gallery was done entirely with Art Stix with an underpainting -- and underpainting makes colored pencil works go much faster with less days of work or hand cramps. They should design some sort of different pencil extender or pastel holder, maybe with a rounded grip or something. You're not the first good artist I've met who had that problem.

Neat! It's gotten a lot richer in each stage, and I like the final product a lot! :-)

BTW, do you realize how many join requests and comments and stuff you have piled up at *Prismacolorists? ;-)

Yes, we are friends and can share our knowledge.
Great!

I have never tried an underpainting with pencil, but have seen it suggested. Oh if only I can live long enough to try everything! Mixing media seems to be very popular and is fun. I've also dabbled a bit in collage.

I am also an avid reader of art books. I find them inspiring and enjoyable and read them cover to cover.

Wow, thank you! And thanks for the tip. I need to go log in and send out "You're in" notes! Thanks!

I am too, that's what decided me to write one. I've written many novels but when I was honest with myself, about one in four or five books I buy is an art book. So why not learn to write that too? Just stick to things I do well and then learn like a kid again before the next book to have new topics.
