ACEO Size: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Medium: Derwent Aquatone woodless watercolor pencils, Sakura Koi watercolor, Prismacolor Colorless Blender

Surface: Strathmore Aquarius II watercolor paper

Inspired by a black and white photo reference in an ad, I chose a small section of leaf surface and drew it in Aquatone Bottle Green, then put all the pale little veins in with Prismacolor Colorless Blender. A soft tonal layer of May Green mixed with Emerald Green proved too light, so I started going in with two greens from my Sakura Koi set till I darkened those. I mixed colors into colors, adding some yellow ochre for interest on light bits, which eventually made the pale lines show up. Then while it was damp I used dry into wet, with the now-blunt bottle green Aquatone darkening selected sections. It has almost a batik look and is much looser than my usual realism -- but it also looks lively and did get the feel of sun shining right through the leaf.

ACEO Leaf is posted at auction on eBay, or you can search on "Robs Art" to see all my current listings there.

Very nice, water droplets are always interesting to study, as are leaves.

This is very good, the raindrops are very realistic, you used the white very well.

I love the detail in this. Those water droplets were what caught my eye though, they are so amazingly realistic!

I love doing water droplets and dew. I should do that more often, especially when I do floral art.

Thank you! Yes, they are. I love doing droplets on anything, but especially vegetation of one kind or another. Blue Rose has a lot of water droplets too, maybe that's why it's so popular. When I did other blue roses I didn't go that far with the dew, maybe I should on my next floral!

Thank you! This one still hasn't sold, so I'm considering listing it in my Etsy store or relisting it on eBay again.

Thank you! I had fun doing it. I may have to do some more dewdrops things, maybe do one with a butterfly sometime.
